Dreamer (UE4 FILM JAM)
Have you ever fallen in love with someone from far away? Love has no bounds, not even the distance of two worlds can divide lovers.
“Dreamer” is a story about love separated by dreams and reality.
“Dreamer” was originally produced to be entered in the 2019 UE4 Film Jam. A combination of making the project scope too large, running into a number of technical issues, and first time use of Blender for 3D animation further made it difficult to complete “Dreamer” within the October 19 deadline.
The scope of the project was originally developed to have the flexibility to be experienced as a short film, an interactive 2D experience, and of course, virtual reality. It really made the project much larger, having elements that could be incorporated after the short film was produced. This scope added a layer complexity throughout the project lifecycle.
The completion of the project was also a true test of patience, perseverance, and learning. The number of hours put into the project include many sleepless nights, frustrating moments, and interesting “aha” moments of clarity. Giving up was a viable option but the vision of seeing it through prevailed.
Although the script and storyboards were put together in the beginning, the project evolved consistently, all the way into the editing phase. Completing tasks followed lean manufacturing methodologies that helped speed up the process of development and curb production bottlenecks when at times, productivity started to decrease. This was a one person production, other than having my niece, Saige, do the voice over for Sofia, on such a late notice. Most of the assets were built specifically for this project.
Special thanks to all the open source software, Saige, Sofia, ate, ate Klang, family, and friends.
Thank you for viewing this short film.
