AI: SORA Canceled (24 March 2026)

On March 24, 2026 Open AI announced they were shuttering the SORA app reported by CBC news¹. The article further points that this is in direct correlation to the upcoming IPO.

We should also note at the time of this writing competitors such Google's VEO, Seedream² have released powerful examples of video generation, not only for the improved quality of the results but also with content being having relevance to current events that echo public sentiment and commentary.

This sudden decision to shift away from the app is as fast paced as the updates are to the ever evolving nature of the AI industry despite being still quite nascent. That in itself could have been the reason why a shift away from developing the app further is just another example of a fruit getting too ripe, too fast, are the ones that fall from the tree the fastest.
