Like Google's project Stadia, Amazon's, cloud gaming service is facing a similar fate, with cancellations to purchase individual games and third-party titles. The wind down started 10 April 2026 and will officially end 10 June 2026. Streaming some games from Luna will still be available to subscribers to Luna premium and a 90 day window to acquire the games.1

The sudden shift to downsize Luna services could be attributed to the intense competition exceedingly led by Valve's Steam platform, followed by Epic Games for the AAA gaming market. Other platforms include Good Old Games (GOG), Itch.io, with publishers such as EA and Ubisoft occupying portions of the market excluding Apple's App store and Google Play.

While the market seems poised to warrant having a new contender in the game services space, attempts to dethrone Steam falls to the wayside, despite a concerted effort and resources that fails to breach the moat and walls that Steam possesses. Steam continues to establish itself as the "go-to" gaming ecosystem that's customer/gamer centric and having a reputation of goodwill within the community.
