Why Do We Need to Update Our Computers?

Intel and AMD are the most common makers of the Central Processing Unit, or CPU for short, found in most laptops and desktops. They have both been around for a long time, so naturally, they have a number of different CPU products in the market. Over the course of those years, new developments in technology have emerged, including improvements in security both in hardware and in software that lead us to need to update.

The reason why a number of laptops and desktops need to be updated is because Windows 11 is requiring compatibility with a hardware-based security component called a Trusted Platform Module, or TPM for short, designed "to ensure the integrity of a computing platform from boot-up to runtime". TPM started in 2009 and many modern motherboards  will have the buses and/or the TPM chip depending on its vintage and model. If you do not have the TPM chip but do have the buses on the motherboard, there is the potential to manually install it to update the motherboard with the chip, although with no guarantee of compatibility with Windows 11. Results may vary. I have not done it myself so I am unfamiliar with how it will turn out.

I did put together the exhaustive lists of compatible CPUs taken directly from Microsoft's official website(s):

Does this major update affect you in any way? Does it affect what you do professionally or personally? Will this affect you for gaming? Hopefully, this information will be helpful to you to make sure your computer activity is safe and up to date!
